What is GGSIPU Counseling and How Does It Work for BBA, MBA & B.Com?

If you've cleared CUET, CAT, or CMAT and are now waiting for admission into an IP University college, one word will keep coming up: counseling. But what exactly is GGSIPU counseling? And how does it decide where you get admitted? Let's break it down simply.

What is GGSIPU Counseling?

GGSIPU (Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University) does not give direct admission to any college. Instead, it runs a centralized online counseling process that allocates seats across all its affiliated colleges, including top ones like RDIAS. Your score in the entrance exam determines your rank, and your rank determines which college and course you can get.

Step-by-Step GGSIPU Counseling Process

Step 1 — Register on the Counseling Portal: Visit ipu.admissions.nic.in and create your account using your entrance exam roll number and personal details.

Step 2 — Pay Counseling Fee: A small registration fee is charged to participate in the counseling process. Pay this online.

Step 3 — Fill Your Choices: This is the most important step. You will select colleges and courses in order of your preference. The more choices you fill, the better your chances. Don't just put 2–3 colleges, fill as many as possible.

Step 4 — Upload Documents: Upload scanned copies of Class 10 & 12 mark sheets, entrance scorecard, category certificate (if applicable), Aadhaar, photo, and signature.

Step 5 — Wait for Seat Allotment: GGSIPU conducts multiple rounds — Round 1, Round 2, Spot Round, and Special Round. In each round, seats are allotted based on your rank and the choices you made.

Step 6 — Report to the College: Once a seat is allotted, you MUST report to the college (e.g., RDIAS) within the given deadline, submit original documents, and pay the fee to confirm your seat.
